COOLSCULPTING® FAT REDUCTION IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

What is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® is a new, nonsurgical fat-reduction technology available in St. Louis at West County Plastic Surgeons. The FDA-approved CoolSculpting® device performs cryolipolysis (fat breakdown via cooling), and it works like this: A localized bulge of fat, such as the flank or bra strap roll, is placed in a special applicator for one hour. The machine cools the fat cells, which are more sensitive to cold than skin, nerves, or blood vessels.

Some of the treated fat cells are altered by the temperature shift, stimulating the release of cytokines, which are natural signaling chemicals. These cytokines then trigger a process called apoptosis, a natural self-destruction of the body’s own fat cells. The body clears the fat cell remnants using the same elements of the immune system that clear dietary fats. Note that this process does not elevate cholesterol levels.

What Is CoolSculpting® Elite?

As an advancement over the legacy device, CoolSculpting® Elite features a design that includes C-shaped applicators and up to 18 percent more surface area covered per treatment. These innovations make each session more efficient, especially when factoring in the dual applicators that double the treatment areas that can be targeted each session. As an added benefit, the quieter device makes tuning out and focusing on a book, show, or movie—or even nodding off while you wait—even easier.

Details about Cryolipolysis

Traditional fat-reduction methods such as diet and exercise can be effective in certain circumstances, but there are two potential snags:

One: Areas that slim down thanks to healthy eating and physical activity are not losing fat cells. The cells themselves are merely shrinking. The problem is that any fat cells that shrink can grow large again, undoing the results of your hard-fought efforts.

Two: Even the most committed dieters can still find that some fat refuses to go away. The submental area below the chin is notorious for this, but a stubborn bulge can remain on the abdomen, too.

CoolSculpting® is the answer to both of those challenges, since the fat it treats is physically destroyed, never to return.

Approximately 15 to 30% of the fat cells within the treatment area are eliminated with each CoolSculpting® procedure. For our St. Louis patients who prefer a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction, cryolipolysis can safely and effectively reduce stubborn fat deposits.

Most of our CoolSculpting® patients in St. Louis notice visible results within two months of treatment, and they report further improvement over the following six months. Patients who maintain their current weight, diet, and exercise routine can enjoy long-term results since the affected fat cells are completely removed from the body. For more dramatic results, treatments can be repeated.

Anesthesia: No anesthesia required

Length of procedure: 35 minutes per treatment area

Estimated recovery time: Most patients can exercise, return to work, or resume their regular daily routine immediately following their CoolSculpting® procedure in our St. Louis office.

Side effects: Cryolipolysis can cause tingling, sensitivity, redness, and numbness to the treated area, but none of these require time off or anesthesia. Symptoms resolve within days or weeks.

It is important to remember that while CoolSculpting® is quite effective at reducing the number of fat cells in a specific area, it is not intended to be a weight loss method or used for health reasons.

DualSculpting for Twice the CoolSculpting® Benefit

West County Plastic Surgeons offers two CoolSculpting® devices, which can operate simultaneously on a single patient. This means that both flanks can be treated at once, which cuts the overall treatment time for an abdomen-based session in half. Depending on the applicators used, patients can have two entirely different areas of their body worked on at the same time for slimmed-down results in more than one region.

The full scope of your unique CoolSculpting® treatment can be discussed at your consultation, which will take your ultimate goals into account to determine the total number of sessions necessary, whether one or two devices should be used, the cost, and other details related to your personalized plan.

  • Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty). Patients with redundant abdominal skin who desire either larger breasts or a more rounded shape to the upper part of the breast may choose to undergo breast augmentation.
  • Breast lift (mastopexy). This procedure lifts and reshapes sagging breasts by removing redundant breast skin and repositioning the existing breast tissue in an upward and more youthful position. It is often combined with breast augmentation for optimal results.
  • Breast reduction. A breast reduction lifts and reduces the size of the breasts.
  • Male breast reduction. A male breast reduction surgically removes excess breast tissue (gynecomastia).
  • Fractionated laser resurfacing. Fractionated laser resurfacing corrects uneven skin pigmentation and reduces fine wrinkling of the face and hands.
