Lip Injections
Enhance and Shape an Ideal Pout in St. Louis
The lips are a focal point on every person’s face, whether they’re puckered into a pout, stretched into a wide smile, or in constant motion in a conversation. Since they get so much attention, many people want their lips to be as picture-perfect as possible, which is why we offer lip injections at St. Louis’ West County Plastic Surgeons.
Some people enjoy naturally full, shapely, and proportional lips, while others find that their lips are flat, thin, and not in harmony with the rest of their facial features. Even those who like the look of their lips can find that time robs them of volume, leading to their gradual reduction in size and a changing shape. Lip injections enhance the size of the lips and can also be used to improve symmetry and definition, emphasize the desirable "Cupid’s bow," and smooth fine lines around the mouth.

Lip Injections Available for Our St. Louis Patients
The dermal fillers used for lip injections at West County Plastic Surgeons have gone through rigorous testing and are considered safe and reliable when it comes to adding volume to the lower face. Some are FDA approved specifically as lip fillers, while others are typically used for facial contouring or smoothing wrinkles, but are also routinely used to add volume to the lips by injectors all over the country.
JUVEDERM® VOLBELLA® and Ultra
Among the family of hyaluronic acid-based JUVEDERM® fillers is VOLBELLA®, an injectable designed specifically for lip augmentation and correcting perioral lines, which are the fine wrinkles that form around the mouth over time—often referred to as "lipstick lines.". JUVEDERM® Ultra is another option for plumping lips that are naturally thin or that have thinned with age. Ultra can also reduce the severity of nasolabial folds and similar creases on the lower face. Both lip injections provide results that can last up to a year

Fat Grafting
For certain patients, lip enhancement via fat grafting can make sense and be an ideal option for adding volume. This is a more involved procedure than typical lip injections because it includes using liposuction to harvest healthy fat cells from elsewhere on the body. These living cells are then "refined" and injected as an especially natural filler into the lips. Because surgery is a necessary part of this lip injection strategy, it is typically chosen by patients who are having more extensive work—such as a facelift—performed.
RHA®
The RHA® collection by Revance is made up of hyaluronic molecules created via a process that makes them especially resilient—able to add natural-looking volume that withstands the rigorous motion of highly active areas of the face, such as around the mouth. This filler is approved for addressing moderate to severe facial lines in the mouth area, but is also frequently used for lip injections. Results can last for up to 15 months.

Treatments to Complement Lip Injections
RADIESSE®
RADIESSE® is not used for lip injections, but can smooth oral commissures—which are known as "marionette lines"—and other lower-face wrinkles, giving the entire mouth area a more youthful look. Results can be expected to last around 12 to 18 months.

BELOTERO Balance®
BELOTERO Balance® smooths vertical lip lines for six months or longer by adding hyaluronic acid-based gel beneath the skin for a boost in volume. This can help to bring more attention to the lips themselves, with or without lip injections.

BOTOX® is typically used to relax muscles on the upper third of the face to minimize frown lines, crow’s feet, and other dynamic wrinkles. The West County Plastic Surgeons injectors can also use small amounts of this injectable to keep specific muscles at rest in the mouth area, increasing the longevity of fillers used here to complement lip injections.
Our goal is to give you a comprehensive and natural-looking rejuvenation, whether you want lip injections alone or are scheduling lip enhancement as part of a larger treatment plan.
