HOW DO I DECIDE WHETHER TO UNDERGO A BROWLIFT, UPPER-EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY (UPPER EYELID LIFT), OR BOTH?

A browlift and upper-lid blepharoplasty can rejuvenate the upper third of the face. These procedures work independently, or in concert as follows:

  1. Upper-lid blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) alone. This procedure removes extra upper eyelid skin, redundant muscle, and if necessary, fat pockets to provide a crisp look to the eyelids. It does not alter eyebrow position. Also, it is less effective than a browlift at removing the hood of skin between the eyebrow and the outside upper eyelid that can give a crowded appearance.
  2. Browlift alone. This procedure may be used to raise and arch the eyebrows, remove forehead and frown wrinkles, and minimize crowding between the eyebrow and the outer part of the upper eyelid (i.e., hooding). It does not remove folds of upper eyelid skin.
  3. Upper-lid blepharoplasty with browlift. When performed together, these procedures are a powerful combination. Forehead and frown wrinkles can be reduced, upper eyelid hooding can be minimized, redundant skin removed, and the eyebrows repositioned to a more youthful position.
