Procedures: Tissue Expander , Breast Reduction

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in early March 2009. I scheduled a mastectomy for April 1. My surgeon, Dr. Julie Margenthaler, recommended that I meet with Dr. Terence Myckatyn to discuss reconstruction.

I felt at ease with Dr. Myckatyn at my first visit. He was wonderfully compassionate, caring and a fantastic surgeon. He recommended performing a tissue expander simultaneously with the mastectomy to begin the breast reconstruction process. Next would come the reconstruction of my breast, and lastly he recommended that my other breast be reduced and lifted to match.

I had my initial consultation on March 24, my first surgery on April 1, and my reconstruction surgery on November 2, 2009. I returned to work within eight working days of both surgeries. I had a follow-up appointment on December 8, 2009, and have already scheduled nipple reconstruction surgery. I feel that I have recovered quite well and have few restrictions.

I am very pleased with the results of my surgery. The reconstruction and reduction process was smooth, and I only had minor pain afterwards. I sleep better and I am more confident with my appearance.

From my initial consultation through surgery and follow-up appointments, I felt that I was in good hands. Dr. Myckatyn was thorough in his explanations of the procedures and what my expectations of the results should be. He was always kind, willing to answer questions and very compassionate. Emily Weinhaus PA-C, an assistant to Dr. Myckatyn, was wonderful as well – very informative and caring. She helped me feel comfortable during the "before and after" photo process.

You won't find a more competent and caring doctor and the staff than Dr. Myckatyn and West County. Choosing them was a blessing for me, and I am sure they would be a blessing for anyone going through a similar situation.
