Direct-to-Implant Breast Reconstruction
Age: 65
My surgeon recommended a lumpectomy with radiation, but due to my experience in the OR, my mom's history, and prayerful consideration, I decided on a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction—which ended up being the best decision, since my pathology showed both breasts had cancer. A different hospital previously told me my right breast was clear. To GOD I give all the glory for my decision. I had worked at that other hospital, and although I like the plastic surgeons there, I was not overly impressed with their work. At West County Plastic Surgeons, the greeters, the receptionist, the OR staff, and the surgeons were all very professional and very informative. I didn't just feel like a number, which is a problem so many institutions have succumbed to. I felt like a person with needs, and the staff was concerned with those needs. I have been in the medical field since 1981 and in the OR setting for over 35 years. NEVER had I ever seen a mastectomy that looks this well—EVER! I was so pleased with the care I received and the professionalism that was demonstrated. The surgeons were informative and did excellent work. I have already recommended my surgeons to other people.
