SAINT LOUIS SMARTLIPO™ OR LASER-ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION OF THE NECK

What is SmartLipo™ or laser-assisted liposuction of the neck? Neck liposuction is a procedure designed to remove extra fat below the jaw while providing a modest tightening effect to the neck skin. It can be performed in the office using one or two tiny, well-hidden incisions under the chin. Occasionally it is combined with energy sources such as Vaser or ultrasound to help with more fibrous tissue or to improve skin tightening.

LIPO-STEPS

Neck liposuction is an effective technique for removing small amounts of fat under the jaw.

Dr. Terry Myckatyn and
Dr. Marissa Tenenbaum:

Trusted. Experienced. Committed.

Associated Procedures:
Mini-facelift or short-scar facelift.
These procedures can be performed with the patient awake in the office or under general anesthesia and are designed to rejuvenate loose tissues in the lower two thirds of the face from the jawline to the upper cheek. Combined with liposuction of the neck, these procedures can effectively rejuvenate the neck and face without patients undergoing a standard facelift.

Fractionated laser resurfacing. Fractionated laser resurfacing provides an effective, low-downtime solution for treating fine wrinkles and blotchy skin throughout the face, as well as the deeper wrinkles around the mouth and eyes.

Anesthesia: Liposuction of the neck is usually performed with the patient under local anesthesia in the office.

Length of procedure: 45 to 60 minutes.

Estimated recovery time: You can return to work after 1 to 3 days, but should avoid vigorous activities for 5 to 7 days. We recommend you wear a compressive dressing on your neck as much as possible for a few weeks to reduce swelling and help contour any loose skin. Visible bruising or swelling should clear up within 7 days. To learn how to prepare for liposuction of the neck and what to expect afterwards, click here to download our patient instructions.

Side effects: Common side effects include bruising, swelling, a well-hidden scar and some numbness on the undersurface of the jaw. Click here to download a detailed consent form from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons that lists the risks and benefits of liposuction.
