How do the incisions for the various forms of tummy tuck compare?
There are four primary versions of the tummy tuck. They are selected depending on the extent and location of skin excess as well as the need for abdominal wall tightening.
The mini-abdominoplasty is associated with the shortest incision, extending just over the pubic area. It is used in patients with only a small amount of extra abdominal skin who want to have their abdominal wall muscles tightened.

The abdominoplasty is the common procedure and uses an incision that extends across the lower abdomen and is used for moderate skin excess and muscle tightening.
The extended abdominoplasty extends the standard abdominoplasty to include the flanks. It is used when a significant amount of skin excess extends to the flank area.
The lower body lift involves an incision that runs around the entire circumference of the body like a belt. It is intended for patients with a large amount of excess skin following significant (usually > 80 pound) weight loss.
