Body Procedures Edge Out Facial Surgeries in the New ASPS Report

According to recently released data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, three body-focused procedures landed in the top five most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries of 2018. The other two were face-focused procedures, both of which dipped slightly in terms of number of procedures performed when compared to the previous year.

Leading the pack is breast augmentation, with 313,375 procedures reported in 2018—a rise of 4 percent from 2017. Implant surgery has typically taken this top spot in every report for many years now.

Rising five percent from its 2017 totals, liposuction came next. U.S. surgeons reported performing 258,558 surgical fat reductions in 2018. This is a 5 percent increase!

When it comes to rhinoplasty, St. LouisWest County Plastic Surgeons noted that the nose-reshaping procedure had a 2-percent drop from the previous year. Still, the 213,780 procedures performed in 2018 were enough to keep this facial surgery in third place.

Eyelid surgery had a smaller drop—just 1 percent—to put it in fourth place with 206,529 procedures performed in 2018.

Finally, the fifth most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure of 2018 was abdominoplasty, better known as a tummy tuck. Virtually the same number of people chose this procedure each year for two years, leading to no change in percentage up or down.

The popularity of one procedure over another is most significant when looking at industry trends. No matter what you are looking for—whether a body or a face surgery—the only demographic that truly matters is one: yourself.
